Frequently asked questions

ICD-11 (International Classification of Diseases, 11th Revision) is the latest global standard developed by the World Health Organization for coding diseases, health conditions, and related health problems.

ICD-11 was introduced to reflect advances in medical science, improve clinical accuracy, support digital health systems, and provide more detailed and flexible disease classification.

ICD-11 offers a more structured and digital-friendly design, includes new disease entities, updated terminology, and allows for post-coordination to capture more clinical detail than ICD-10.

ICD-11 officially came into effect on 1 January 2022, after being endorsed by the World Health Assembly in 2019.

ICD-11 is used by healthcare providers, hospitals, insurers, researchers, and governments worldwide for clinical documentation, billing, reporting, and health statistics.
